Three Rustic Cabins: furnished with fireplace, full kitchen, two single size bunk beds, half bathroom with sink and toilet, outdoor campfire rings. Showers available at camping area. Location: Located 30 miles from Long Beach Island on Rt 72. Brendan T. Byrne State Forest does have 25 miles of marked trails. The various trails and loops provide challenges ranging from long single track hiking trails to a trail accessible for people with disabilities. The Batona Trail is designed for hiking, cross country skiing and snow shoeing. The Mount Misery Trail allows visitors the additional option of mountain biking, and the Cranberry Trail allows access by wheelchairs in addition to all the other uses listed above. The Batona Trail is approx. 50 miles in length and links Brendan T. Byrne, Wharton and Bass River State Forests.
Seaside Heights, Island Beach, Six Flags Great Advenure, Columbus Auction, Whitesbog village, New Egypt Speedway. The Forest offers biking trails, hiking trails, and horse trails. Visit Historic Whitesbog Village located in the forest. The forest is also home to the cedar swamp natural area. Hunting is permitted in season.
From the NJ turnpike, take exit 7 and follow Route 206 south to Route 38 east, to second traffic light, then turn right onto Magnolia Road (Route 644). Follow Magnolia Road until you reach the Four Mile Circle. From the circle, take Route 72 east. Make a left at Mile Marker 1. There is a Forest Entrance Sign on your left as you turn in. Take the first right and the office is on the left.
Campsites and shelters are open year round. Brendan T. Byrne also has pet friendly campsites (sites 14-82). It is a carry in carry out area. Have your equipment with you and be ready to camp when you register. Make and license plates of all vehicles must be provided at registration. OCCUPANCY -Limited to 6 individuals per campsite unless group site. Limited to 2 tents per site unless on a group site. Only 2 vehicles permitted on any campsite. Extra vehicles will be required to park in a designated area (additional fees will apply). AGE REGULATIONS -Campsites must be registered and occupied by a responsible person 18 years of age or older. QUIET HOURS -From 10 p.m. until 6 a.m., and are strictly enforced. Violators of this policy may be evicted. GENERATORS - May be used except during quiet hours. If the use of a generator is deemed unreasonably loud by the facility staff then individual use of a generator may be prohibited/limited. FIRES -Fires are only permitted between the hours of 6:00 pm and 9:00 am. Fires may only be built in the fire rings provided. Only dead and downed wood may be used for fuel. No chainsaws are allowed in campgrounds, and cutting down trees (alive or dead) is prohibited. There are bear in the area. Please keep a clean campsite. Do not leave food out. Additional parking for registered campers and their guests is available in the campground for an additional fee.
