Located just off Interstate 80, Great Salt Lake State Park is the most easily accessed gateway to the Great Salt Lake.
Location: The Great Salt Lake today is a remnant of the much larger Lake Bonneville, which spanned 20,000 square miles during the last ice age. Today, the lake is about 75 miles north to south, and 35 miles east to west. The state park is located at the lake's southern edge.
Recreation: Activites in the park include walking along the beach, swimming, boating, birding, kayaking, and simply taking in the sweeping views of the lake.
We are located adjacent to the famous Saltair Palace, and we are just minutes away from the Salt Lake City airport and downtown.
Great Salt Lake State Park is located just off Exit 104 on Interstate 80.
Park gates close at 5:00pm. If you intend to arrive after-hours, please call the park visitor center (9am-5pm) at 801-828-0787 in order to make arrangements for entry.
The park's visitor center contains a gift shop and exhibits detailing the history, geography, and inhabitants of the Great Salt Lake (including a tank of living brine shrimp). Picnic areas and campsites offer views of the harbor and the lake, and a public boat ramp allows for access out onto the water.
