Lake Marcia offers a seasonal bathhouse open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend from the hours of 10:00am to 6:00pm. Hot showers, dressing rooms and restrooms are available. An adjacent seasonally operated concession stand is also available. Standing at the highest elevation in the state of New Jersey, 1803 feet above sea level, the monument was built through the generosity of the Kuser family, in honor of all war veterans. Construction was started in 1928 and completed in 1930. At the top of the 220-foot structure, observers have a breathtaking view of the ridges of the Pocono Mountains toward the west, the Catskill Mountains to the north and the Wallkill River Valley in the southeast. The monument is open seasonally, weather permitting. Contact the park office for up-to-date information. The Interpretive Center offers a variety of interpretive and educational programs on a year-round basis. Nature hikes, stream walk, and talks are conducted by the park naturalist throughout the seasons. Multiple restrooms with flush toilets and potable water are located throughout the park.
Location: Located in the extreme northwest corner of New Jersey, the park is situated along the crest of the Kittatinny Mountains in Sussex County. The view from High Point Monument, at 1,803 feet above sea level, is a spectacular panorama of rich farmland and forest, soft hills and lush valleys in three states: New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. The blue line of the Delaware River divides the verdant ridges of New Jersey from those of Pennsylvania. High Point State Park is also the home of the Dryden Kuser Natural Area, at 1,500 feet above sea level, this Atlantic white cedar swamp is the highest of its kind in the world.
High Point State Park is just one of many New Jersey State Parks in Sussex County. Swartswood State Park, Stokes State Forest, Jenny Jump State Forest, Worthington State Forest and Waywayanda State Park are all within an hour drive. The nearby Delaware River and Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area also offer many recreational activities for visiting families to enjoy. High Point State Park is located in the Tri-State Area, providing easy access to nearby New York and Pennsylvania attractions. High Point State Park offers many recreational activities for both the day and overnight visitor. Lake Marcia, a 20-acre spring fed natural lake with a lifeguarded beach, is refreshing for swimmers during the hot summer months. During the winter, the High Point Cross-Country Ski Center, a private concession within the park, maintains over 10 miles of groomed trails and provides equipment rentals and instruction for both cross-country skiing and snow shoeing. Picnicking facilities are provided in attractive, private and open settings with tables and charcoal grills. High Point State Park offers 50 family campsites with fire rings and picnic tables in a secluded setting along 20-acre Sawmill Lake. A limited number of campsites have space for a travel trailer, but must be completely self contained, as there are no water, sewer, or electric hookups available in the park. Camping is available seasonally from April 1 - October 31. For larger groups High Point State Park offers two group campsites located off of Park Ridge Road in a secluded location. Group Campsite A has a capacity of 25 people. Group Campsite B has a capacity of 25 people. The group campsites have potable water nearby and each has a composting pit toilet on site. Group camping is available year around however potable water access is limited in winter months. Two family cabins and a group cabin are available for rentals in the park. All cabins have electricity, bathrooms with a shower, toilet and sink, and are furnished with a woodstove for heat during cooler months. The cabins also have a full kitchen with a sink, refrigerator, and electric stove. Cabins are available from May 15 - October 15. With over 50 miles of trails, High Point State Park offers visitors a variety of options during the year. Designated multi-use trails are available for hiking, mountain biking, horseback riding, dog sledding, cross country skiing, snowshoeing and snowmobiling. Park visitors can experience a portion of the Appalachian Trail which offers many scenic views of the surrounding valleys and mountains. Although we do not have boat rentals, boating is available at two locations in the park, the 20-acre Sawmill Lake and 36.6-acre Steenykill Lake. Power boats are limited to electric motors only. Coast Guard approved personal flotation devices are required for each boat occupant. Excellent fishing can be found in High Point's numerous lakes and streams. A New Jersey fishing license is required for individuals aged 16 and over. Hunting is permitted in designated areas within High Point State Park and is subject to NJ Division of Fish and Wildlife regulation.

Sawmill Lake Campsites are located on Sawmill Road. Take Route 23 approximately 7.25 miles north of the town of Sussex or 3.75 miles south of Port Jervis, NY and turn on to Sawmill Road. Follow Sawmill Road approximately 2.25 miles and the one way entrance to the campsites will be on your left. In lieu of Route 23 you can take County Route 650 to Sawmill Road, follow Sawmill Road approximately 2.5 miles and the one way entrance to the campsites will be on your right. Group Campsites are located on Park Ridge Road. Take Route 23 approximately 7.25 miles north of the town of Sussex or 3.75 miles south of Port Jervis, NY and turn on to Sawmill Road. Make your first right on to Park Ridge Road. Follow Park Ridge Road approximately 1/4 mile and the Group sites are on the right hand side. In lieu of Route 23, you can take County Route 650 to Sawmill Road, follow Sawmill Road approximately 4.5 miles and make a left on to Park Ridge Road. Follow Park Ridge Road approximately 1/4 mile and the Group Sites are on the right hand side. Family Cabins are located on Route 23 approximately 3/4 mile north of the park office. You must pick up your key from the park office before going to the family cabins. Group Cabin is located on Park Ridge Road. Take Route 23 approximately 7.25 miles north of the town of Sussex or 3.75 miles south of Port Jervis, NY and turn on to Sawmill Road. Make your first right on to Park Ridge Road. Follow Park Ridge Road approximtely 1/4 mile and the Group cabin is on the left hand side. You must pick up your key from the park office before going to the cabin.
Cancellation Policy - If you are unable to make your scheduled dates, you can make a change to your reservation for a $5.00 fee. Changes must be made prior to your check in date and time. If you are unable to reschedule, the cancellation policy for campsite (tents, trailers, primitive campsite, group campsites, wilderness campsite) is: $40 NJ Resident/$50 Out of State Resident or a two night use fee (whichever is less) and any transaction fee paid will be deducted from refund due. The cancellation policy for all other overnight facilities (cabins, group cabins, shelters, and lean-to) depends on when the cancellation is made. If you cancel seven days or less prior to your check-in date, one night use fee and any transaction fee will be deducted from refund due. If you cancel eight days or more prior to your check-in date, only the transaction fee paid will be deducted from refund due. Check-In - Check-in is mandatory and required upon your arrival at the Park. Check-in is available during office hours. Should you arrive when the office is closed, you may proceed to your facility and check in the following morning when the office re-opens. Please refer to your confirmation email, as check-in times vary by facility. Alcoholic Beverages are NOT permitted in any New Jersey State Park Service Area. Smoking and Vaping is not permitted in any New Jersey State Park Service Area. Pets are permitted ONLY in specified camp sites. Black bears are present in New Jersey. During your stay at the park, all coolers and food-related items must be stored in the trunk of your vehicle at all times. Garbage should be promptly removed from your campsite and put in the appropriate trash receptacle. Ticks are present in New Jersey and at our campsites. For information on how to prevent tick bites that may transmit disease please visit https://www.cdc.gov/ticks/index.html Minimum Age – camping facilities and sites must be reserved by at least 1 person 18 years of age or older, who shall occupy and be responsible for the facility or site during the rental period. Firewood – Firewood is not furnished at campsites or cabins, but can be purchased at the office during business hours. Visitors are allowed at camping facilities and cabins between the hours of 8:00am – 8:00pm. If visitors choose to enter the Day Use area entrance fees will be charged from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Quiet hours are observed between 10:00pm – 6:00am. CAMPSITES – Must be reserved for a minimum of 2 nights. The maximum length of stay in a campsite is 14 consecutive nights. There is a maximum of 2 vehicles per site. Parking for additional vehicles is available in a nearby overflow lot with an additional charge of $5 per night per vehicle. Please contact the Park Office for specific details regarding multiple vehicles. GROUP CAMPSITES - May be reserved for a minimum of 1 night up to a 14 night maximum length of stay. More than 2 vehicles are permitted on group campsites, however upon registration you will only be allowed a maximum of 2. Upon check in all vehicles on your site will be required to be registered. GROUP CABIN – Must be reserved for a minimum of 2 nights. The maximum length of stay in the group cabin is 14 consecutive nights. CABINS – From the third week of June through the day after Labor Day family cabins must be reserved for a period of either 7 or 14 consecutive nights. Prior to the Friday of Memorial Day weekend and after Labor Day cabins can be reserved for a minimum of 2 to a maximum of 14 consecutive nights.
