Prior to the pond's creation, the Murderkill River and surrounding hardwood forest were sites of several Native American homes and hunting camps. Killens Pond was established as a state park in 1965. Killens Pond State Park is centrally located in the heart of Kent County in Felton, Delaware. The Park is conveniently located fifteen miles south of Dover, forty-five miles from the Delaware Beaches and within two hours from Philadelphia, Baltimore, Annapolis, Norther Virginia and Washington, DC.
