About Kodachrome Basin State Park

Sixty-seven monolithic stone spires called sedimentary pipes accentuate multi-hued sandstone layers revealing 180 million years of geologic time. The color and beauty found here prompted a 1948 National Geographic Society expedition to name the area Kodachrome after the popular color film. Kodachrome Basin, as its name implies, is a spectacle of massive sandstone chimneys changing in color with the day's mood.

Location: Numerous rocks and coves offer solitude, quiet and unique desert beauty.

Recreation: In addition to hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking in the park, visitors should plan to visit nearby Grosvenor Arch. This intricate double arch, located just 10 miles southeast of the park, is one of the most impressive in the state.

Nearby Attractions

Bryce Canyon National Park, Grosvenor Arch, Paria Canyon, movie sets and ghost town remains.
