About this park

The 13,625-acre Laurel Ridge State Park stretches along Laurel Mountain from the picturesque Youghiogheny River at Ohiopyle, to the Conemaugh Gorge near Johnstown. This large park spans Cambria, Fayette, Somerset and Westmoreland counties. The main feature of the park is the 70-mile Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail, which provides the setting for a semi-wilderness backpacking and day hiking experience. One of the most exciting reasons to visit the park is for its scenery. Spring wildflowers dot the forest floor in early April followed by a vibrant green forest as leaf-out begins in late April. Mountain laurel blooms in June and rhododendron blooms in late June and early July. Come to the park in mid-October and witness fall color in all its glory. Winter is spectacular when the park is covered in a deep blanket of snow and the occasional great horned owl calls through the moon-lit forest.

Please protect your natural resources. Do not pick or damage vegetation. The Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail is open to foot traffic only. Shuttle services are provided by Wilderness Voyageurs. Please call 800-272-4141.This trail and associated facilities are not ADA. Water is not available at all trailhead / parking or shelter areas. Please call 724-455-3744 for current water availability. Please be aware that bringing firewood into pa is prohibited & could result in a citation. Moving firewood into parks spreads insects & diseases. The use of local firewood is strongly recommended. All firewood must be burned prior to your departure. More info is available at www.emeraldashborer.info. LHHT Shelters and Laurel Ridge Pavilion: Alcoholic Beverages are Prohibited. Please be aware that bringing firewood into PA is prohibited & could result in a citation. Moving firewood into parks spreads insects & diseases. The use of local firewood is strongly recommended. All firewood must be burned prior to your departure. More info is available at www.emeraldashborer.info. Permit Conditions: 1. No more than one family unit or five unrelated persons per campsite. Other facilities are limited to the maximum occupancy for the facility (i.e. beds in cabins) for non-family guests. Note: Family Unit-Persons living under one household. 2. Occupant shall include at least one person 18 years of age or older. 3. Noise or conduct which could interfere with the sleep of other persons is prohibited between 9 p.m. and 8 a.m. 4. Before vacating the facility/site, occupants shall clean and properly dispose of waste. 5. Visitors are permitted only between 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. 6. This permit may not be assigned or transferred. 7. Alcoholic Beverages are prohibited. 8. Failure to abide by Pennsylvania State Park Rules and Regulations. 9. For cabins,/yurts/camping cottages removal of tables, beds or other furnishings from the facility are prohibited. 10. For cabins/yurts/camping cottages, tents, camping trailers and recreation vehicles are not permitted in the area. 11. Pets are only permitted in designated areas. Overnight guest with pets must reserve designated facilities. 12. Shelter/tent sites are “Pack-In, Pack-out” areas. Please check the area for litter prior to leaving and take all garbage out with you. 13. No horses, motorized vehicles, or mountain bikes are permitted on hiking trails or in shelter areas. 14. Climbing upon buildings or roofs is prohibited. 15. Do not deface, destroy or remove any sign, building, state park structure or tree. No fastening devices (nails, screws, hooks, staples) are to be attached to buildings or trees. 16. Fires are permitted only in fireplaces, camp stoves or designated campfire facilities. All fires shall be extinguished when leaving shelter/tent area. Ashes and burnt wood shall be left in the fireplace. 17. You may use wood that is dead, and on the ground, for firewood. Live, or dead standing, trees are not permitted to be cut for firewood. Violations: Violations of park rules and regulations or violations of a condition of this permit could result in any or all of the following consequences: 1. The permit may be revoked. This would mean that the occupants would be required to vacate the facility immediately. 2. The occupants may be required to leave the park. 3. The occupants may be cited for violations of park rules and regulations, a summary offense. 4. The occupants are responsible for any loss or damages to furnishings, fixtures, equipment, or facilities that occur during or due to their occupancy.
