Come explore the many miles of roads and trails available for the hiker, snowmobiler, motorcyclist, and equestrian at Pachaug State Forest.

Location: Mt. Misery Overlook is the highest point in the vicinity with an elevation of 441 feet, giving a fine view of Pachaug Forest and Voluntown. The overlook is accessible by trail and or car (600 feet from a parking area.) The Rhododendron Sanctuary offers a short scenic walk through an unusual ecological type and is one of very few such areas in New England. The Rhododendron usually blossom around July 4th.

Recreation: Beachdale Pond is stocked with trout and has natural bass, pickerel and bullhead. The fishing area has a fishing platform off of Route 49 with wheelchair access.

GENERAL INFORMATION Mount Misery Campground is located within Pachaug State Forest. Pachaug State Forest Webpage Pachaug State Forest office - 860-376-4075 Additional information can be found at the following links: CT State Parks Friends of Connecticut State Parks General Camping Information CAMPING INFORMATION ALCOHOL IS PROHIBITED WITHIN PACHAUG STATE FOREST AND THE CAMPGROUNDS. No items may be attached to, hung from, or nailed to trees or structures in Connecticut State Campgrounds - this includes hammocks, lanterns, clothes lines, string lights, etc. Water balloons, silly string, drones and fireworks are also prohibited at all Connecticut State Campgrounds. Reservations are required; no walk-ins allowed. Camping reservations are accepted 11 months in advance until 5pm on the day of arrival at this campground. A two-night minimum is required for all advance reservations, except when making a reservation within 3 days of arrival, when making a one-night reservation is allowed. The maximum length of stay at this campground is 14 (fourteen) consecutive days. Following a reservation/stay of any length, all members of your camping party and your camping equipment must leave the park for 5 days before you can return. The camp areas within Pachaug State Forest, Salt Rock State Forest and Hopeville Pond State Forest are considered one campground with regards to the mandatory interim break. Camping Reservation Freeze Policy: Any reservation with a departure date that is more than 11 months from today cannot be changed or cancelled for 18 days after the reservation was made for an inland campground and 25 days for sites at Hammonasset and Rocky Neck. Check in time for campsites is from 1:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. Campers arriving after 10:00 p.m. will be required to set up in a temporary stopover area until the following morning. Pachaug State Forest contains two campgrounds - Mount Misery and Green Falls. The campgrounds are located in separate locations of the forest. Up to 2 pets per campsite are allowed at both Mount Misery and Green Falls campgrounds. There is a third campground designated for equestrians and their horses only. We do not provide or rent horses. Campers attempting to camp at the equestrian campground without horses will not be allowed to stay. There is no camp office at Pachaug State Forest. The campgrounds are considered rustic - there are no flush toilets or showers. Cell phone service is extremely limited within the forest. . Firewood: In an effort to protect Connecticut's forests from the introduction and spread of destructive insect pests - in particular the emerald ash borer and Asian long-horned beetle - we are taking the following action: Prohibiting the bringing of firewood into state of Connecticut campgrounds and state parks from other states. Firewood can be purchased at local retailers. We greatly appreciate the public's assistance in helping to protect the state's natural resources and apologize for any inconvenience this initiative may cause.
