Rock outcrops, dense woods and wetlands characterize the 40,000 acres of Wawayanda State Park. Located in Sussex and Passaic counties atop the Wawayanda Plateau along the New York border, the park is a refreshing oasis for nature and recreation.

Wawayanda State Park is just one of many State Parks located in the Northern Region. High Point State Park, Stokes State Forest, Ringwood State Park and Swartswood State Park are all within an hour drive. Mountain Creek Waterpark is about fifteen minutes away. The Delaware River and Delaware Water Gap are also close enough for visiting families to enjoy. Our location also provides easy access to New York and Pennsylvania attractions.
Swimming- we offer a refreshing lake with a lifeguarded beach from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day .
Group camping- Campsites are available from April 1- October 31, with a minimum requirement of 7 people per site .
Boating- boat launch available for personal watercraft, as well as a boat rental which offers: Kayaks. Gas motors are not permitted in the lake.
Picnicking- several areas available, both shaded and open. We offer tables and grills. You may also bring your own grill if desired.
Trails- over 60 miles of hiking trails throughout the park. There is a 19.6 mile section of the Appalachian Trail that runs through the park as well.
Fishing- many species of game fish can be found in Wawayanda Lake. Landlocked salmon have been introduced to the lake beginning in 2006. Only a handful of deep lakes in New Jersey offer suitable year-round habitat for cold-water fish such as trout and salmon. A valid New Jersey fishing license is required.
Hunting- over 95% of the park is open for hunting. A valid New Jersey hunting license is required.
Winter activities- we offer snowmobiling trails, cross-country skiing trails, snowshoeing trails, ice fishing.
