Located along the Kittatiny Ridge and bordering the Delaware River, Worthington State Forest offers some of the most rugged terrain and splendid views of northwestern New Jersey. Also within the park are two of the State's natural areas; the Dunnfield Creek Natural Area and the Sunfish Pond Natural Area.

Jenny Jump State Forest, Swartswood State Park, and the Delaware Water Gap National Recreation Area (DWGNRA) including; Bushkill Falls, Dingmans Falls, and Millbrook Village are all within reasonable driving distance. Please contact the DWGNRA for information regarding their attractions (570-426-2452). Turtle Beach- a swimming area within the DWGNRA, is located approximately 4 miles north of Worthington. The Lakota Wolf Preserve is located in Columbia, NJ (908-496-9244), about a 30 minute drive. The McDade Recreational Trail, a walking/bike path, can be accessed off Route 209 in Pennsylvania (Route 80 W to exit 309).

Recreation opportunities are limitless within Worthington. Visitors may choose from a day of birding, fishing, hunting, hiking, biking, or taking a float down the picturesque Delaware River. Many visitors choose a day of hiking on our 26 miles of scenic trails, including a 7 mile stretch of the Appalachian Trail. In addition to the Mt. Tammany and Sunfish Pond hikes, hikers may wish to pick up one of our self-guided brochures and explore the Rockcores Trail. Worthington is also a popular destination for birders throughout the year; you may even witness the beauty of a bald eagle swooping down to catch its prey along the Delaware River. The park is also a well-known destination for participants in the world series of birding. Park visitors are welcome to bring their own canoes or kayaks to access the river via our free boat launch. Canoes, kayaks, and paddleboards may sometimes be rented at the park office--pending staff availability. Visitors and campers can also sign up for archery through the main office. Fishing is available year-round off the banks of the Delaware (NJ fishing license is required). The river offers several species of fish including; Smallmouth Bass, Walleye, and Channel Catfish. The spring run of American Shad is always a highlight to the fishing season at Worthington.
